Early Childhood Focus
We believe early learning should be an adventure. Our play-based program is structured around three core developmental pillars.
We build confidence by following each child's natural interests. Toys, books, and activities are rotated based on what excites themβfostering a lifelong love for exploration and discovery.
We spend meaningful time outside every day, in tune with the seasons. From splash play to digging in the mud and examining the natural world, we embrace "messy play" as vital sensory development.
Housed in a home environment, our "village" approach focuses on helping children learn to identify feelings, build empathy, practice cooperative problem-solving, and form lasting bonds.

Your child is guided by an experienced early childhood professional dedicated to creating a safe and engaging home-away-from-home.
With a background in early childhood development, Ariella founded West End Pod to bridge the gap between structured preschool curriculum and the emotional comfort of an in-home setting. As the owner and director, she leads the daily curriculum and play exploration, supported by dedicated co-teachers and assistants who ensure the children always have close supervision and nurturing guidance.
While our curriculum is flexible and child-led, we maintain a predictable daily schedule that helps children feel secure and grounded.
A gentle transition into the day with music, stories, and warm group greetings.
Child-led learning centers, arts and crafts, and messy nature play outdoors.
Nutritious family-style lunch followed by a quiet, dark nap time.
Healthy snacks, active games, and exploration until families arrive.
Got questions? We've compiled quick answers about licensing, schedules, ratios, and policies.
Yes. We are licensed by the state of Virginia to operate as a Family Day Home. We undergo regular safety, health, and fire inspections to ensure we meet or exceed all state standards.
We maintain a maximum capacity of 12 children with 2 educators in the space at all times (owner/director Ariella Hargrave and a dedicated assistant teacher). This ensures a 1:6 ratio, providing close, nurturing supervision and individualized attention for every child.
We primarily serve children ages 2 to 5 years old. This age range allows for rich peer learning, where older children develop empathy and leadership, and younger children benefit from social modeling.
